Community Routes
This is a podcast filled with therapists, psychologists, authors, and regular people where we talk about mental and emotional health. We take complex topics and break them down, often over snacks and coffee. Our goal is to provide free, digestible mental health discussions to help build a more healthy, supportive community. Join Samuel, Sarah, and Julie every other week on Tuesdays (or whenever you feel like listening)! Our segments: “Off the Beaten Path” is a special episode that features interviews with the community. ”Unpack That” involves discussing books and concepts about mental health. ”Trail Mix” takes a variety of concepts that are asked to the cohosts and discussed as a group. ”Deep Breath” is a shorter, brief mental message for the week.

Episode 66: BOOM (Boundaries)
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
In our 10th episode we finally revisit boundaries. Boundaries are key for maintaining a healthy mental outlook in your day to day. Julie says boundaries are "where you end and the world begins." Understanding your limitation is a benefit to yourself and everyone else, even if it means saying "no." We discuss the protective and the containing parts of boundary work so that you can be secure and connected.
What is the first step towards healthy boundaries? Can boundaries ever be unhealthy?

Episode 65: Your Birthrights
Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
I am so excited to publish this episode about our 5 birthrights and a return to Pia Mellody's Model. This episode is critical to understanding the perspective we bring to the table at Community Routes. This whole episode is full of personal breakthroughs for Samuel and Sarah as we tackle some significant topics. What rights are we owed as humans? Where are we wounded?
As Julie will cover, "to look at these core issues is not to blame, but to get our story straight."
PS. Check out the graph we talk about on Julie's website!

Episode 63: Identifying My Littles (Pia)
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Join Samuel, Julie, and Sarah as they discuss what it feels like to be in a wounded child, adapted adolescent or a functional adult state. You might remember our episode on the Window of Tolerance, which comes into play here. When we are outside of our window, we tend to act like a wounded child or an adapted adolescent. We go over a couple of different feelings that are associated with each ego state.

Episode 62: Unpack That ”Raising Human Beings”
Tuesday Nov 30, 2021
Tuesday Nov 30, 2021
Join Julie as she unpacks Ross Greene's book, Raising Human Beings: Creating a Collaborative Partnership with Your Child. While this covers parenting, Julie talks about how this applies to everyone; we all have an inner child to nourish. Julie goes over our "littles" and a cohesive sense of self. It's about being able to see and support the person in front of you; not forcing them to be what you want them to be. This is a fantastic episode!
Exclusive: Julie also shares her secret note-taking color code (spoilers: orange is a key thought and pink is favorites. Keep an eye out for them!)

Episode 60: Secure and Compromised Attachment
Tuesday Nov 02, 2021
Tuesday Nov 02, 2021
Pour yourself a hot drink and join Samuel, Julie, and Sarah as they talk about different forms of attachment. This is commonly talked about in terms of parent-child, but we apply it to other relationships as well. We answer questions like how do secure attachments differ from compromised attachments? how do attachments impact relationships? What does the inner dialogue sound like in a secure attachment relationship?
